“I believe that life is one large creative endeavor.”

Artist’s Statement:

I believe that life is one large creative endeavor.  I am compelled to try new things and inspired to enjoy today.  As a result, my art continually evolves, affected by mood and experience. Painting ultimately offers a creative escape … a place in which I can find serenity and reflect on the simple joys of the past and present.

Upon starting a work or series, I am drawn to textures and movement, all influenced by mood. I am usually not sure where the painting will take me. Along the journey, often an object or subject will appear in my mind’s eye that belongs to the space. I may research the object or subject via photographs and/or in person, taking mental notes of small details, color, and light.

I paint my subjects quickly, not wanting to lose inspiration or vision. I then revisit them until they are fully developed.  Acrylics continue to be my medium of choice and I have enjoyed working different textures into my paintings.  It is the process and result that provide me sanctuary from my often chaotic adult life.

Kathryn Newcome has been painting with acrylics for more than 20 years. Her works are found in private homes around the Chicagoland area.

Kathryn is a native of and currently resides in the Fox River Valley in Northern Illinois.
